Back Again!!!!!

I'm back in blogging!

After moving from Singapore last year, I took a year off from blogging to get settled into my new home of McLean, Virginia. Now I'm back! I'm entering 7th Grade at Longfellow Middle School with electives of Orchestra(Cello) and Mandarin Chinese. Where I live, middle school doesn't start until 7th grade, so after two years of preparation, I'm finally going. School starts on September 3 so I'm getting the last of my school supplies and asking myself if I want to go to school or not. Summer just goes by so quickly.

As far as sports go this fall, I'm playing Little League Baseball on a team sponsored by Wheats Landscaping, a yard care company. I'm also playing in my third season of Fantasy Football, hoping to finally win the championship this year.

All of a sudden everything feels so busy, but maybe a schedule will be good to have.
Bye Bye Summer; Hello School!

Bitstrips Comic

I made this Bitstrips comic in Tech Class:

I want to argue that I get a Level 4 on this project because I didn't just put five good facts, I put in more! I also used a lot of creativity. Showing a great understanding of the topic, I was always on task. This is why I think I should get a Level 4 grade.

Today is UN Day. Our class teamed up with Ms. Clayton's class to make an ANIMOTO about six international authors. Our group was assigned to Eva Ibbotson. She's written The Secret of Platform 13, Journey to the River Sea, and The Great Ghost Rescue. I did slides 7&8. I can't wait!
With my goals, I have some work to do. My goals are slipping a little. My cursive is up to date. I just have to stay focused.

What I Learned In Computer Class Today

Today in computer class I learned about spam emails. If an email is misspelled and you don't know the person, it's likely that you got sent some spam. Good messages should be about topics you know about from familiar people.

Last Week

Last Week was a week of learning and adventure. I lost the Championship of head to head this week, but I am proud to come in second and think Riya deserved to win. I think I did a good job on my math test too. In the math races this week I was happy to see my team come off with a win of the finals and I can't wait to see how we do next time.

I was happy to get graded with a skilled category after my book club's presentation on The School Story. I did not expect us to do that well! I especially liked the deeper thinking we did in finding the heart of the story. If someone would like to see the presentation they can find it under the award winning presentations gadget.

Talking about my goals, I've made some progress. I can now type 12 words per minute with 100% accuracy. My cursive is also getting way better, and I'm still on that goal. I think my vocabulary is also getting  better. Guess what enticed means!

Thanks,
George

November's quotation of the month is going up soon:

"Always live life the fullest, because you never know what's going to happen next."

Say good bye to our old quotation:

"Boy that can give up essential liberty, to obtain a little safety, deserves neither liberty nor safety.
Benjamin Franklin

Book Report

Dear Mr. Buxton,
I used to think Benjamin Franklin was a very boring fellow, but now, after reading this book, I have noticed that he was actually quite an interesting man. Did you know that Franklin invented the lightning rod, the Franklin Stove, AND the battery?
Visualizing, I could feel how mad Benjamin felt when he went on a ship with a permit to buy his printing equipment and then, when he got to England, it was invalid! Benjamin was also really good at making meaningful quotations. Some of my favorite are "a rolling stone gathers no moss" and "boy that can give up essential liberty, to obtain a little safety, deserves neither liberty nor safety."
When I got to the part in the book about the Franklin Stove, I  was also amazed about how Franklin was able to put a stove and a fireplace all in one, AND make it better all stoves and batteries at the time.
I think this is a great book that YOU should read.
Sincerely,
George

Here is my vocaroo for reading fluency, I couldn't hear it when I tried to listen to it, so it might not work.
Enjoy!

My Reading letter

Dear Mr. Buxton,
I think I read a wide variety of reading genres. I also think I get the hang of all of the different types of questions. I used to get frustrated with further research questions, but once I was able to ask a few in my reading myself, I found it easy to continue. In the biography about Benjamin Franklin I'm reading right now, it has been a pleasure to Visualize Benjamin's success in business. I think I am doing a good job!!!!!!!
Sincerely,
George
